Washington DC: Day 2 (May 19)

Every day in Washington D.C. is a walk-a-thon but Day 2 was an EXTREME walk a thon!  On Day 2 we went to Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery and the White House.  All 3  places were awesome!  We had really great weather.  For most of the trip it was cloudy but this day was HOT!!
So..  We were trying to get out the door in the morning and everyone was enthralled with some stupid show like "swamp man" or something!  My mom and I were cracking up!  We have all these awesome things to see and we can't pull them away from the "swamp!"  Look at my Dad's face!  Haha
Here are the kids at the entrance to Mt. Vernon.  This is George Washington's home and burial place.  It was also the home of his slaves.  This places was really incredible.
Family in front of George Washington's home.  He used the field in front for entertaining and to play Rugby.  I learned a lot that day but my favorite fact was that George Washington never had children.  He was Martha's second husband and he raised her children and when two of her children died he raised their children or his "step-grandchildren."
Behind the house overlooking the Potomac River

Jordie loves animals.  There were several goats and sheep at Mount Vernon and all she wanted to do was play with them!

Here we are walking from the slaves quarters up to George and Martha Washington's burial place.  Absolutely beautiful!

Next we headed to Arlington National Cemetery.  It was absolutely sobering.  What an incredible experience for the kids.
 Chase, Mitchy and Jord
Tay, Mitchy and Jordie at John F. Kenndey's gravesite.
Changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  Seriously one of the  most incredible sites ever!  Seeing Arlington National Cemetery really makes one understand the depth of sacrifice made to keep our country free, independent and organized.

After the Cemetery Jord was POOPED!  SHe fell asleep within two minutes of getting in the van!
Last stop on Day 2 was a walk around the White House.  You can no longer tour the White House so this was as close as we got!  I actually had anticipated the White House would be a little larger than it was.  But it was still beautiful!
Trying to get a good look through the bars.  My Dad is one of the most curious people I know which makes it super fun to travel with him.  Who knows what question he and Chase are discussing!

And that puts Day 2 in the books.  We were exhausted.  The kids were troopers but our legs were definitely tired!  We slept great that night!  My awesome husband got up EVERY morning and exercised.  I have no idea how he had it in him.  I certainly DID NOT!   Way to go JT.
